The Lanier Poets will head out on the road to face off against the Central Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with eight consecutive losses for Lanier and 11 for Central dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Lanier took a serious blow against Pike Road, falling 65-27. Lanier has struggled against Pike Road recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Central had to suffer through a rough 44-14 loss at the hands of Hillcrest.
Lanier's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.1 points per game. As for Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Lanier didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Central in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 39-33 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lanier since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
