1A Conference 1 recap December 3, 2013
Swain County extended the longest winning streak in 1A Conference 1 this week by beating Starmount, 49-14. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Maroon Devils.
Murphy took down Hayesville 49-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Dalton Kent threw for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.
The Bulldogs' dynamic duo of Kent and Bradley Puccio proved to be unstoppable against the Yellowjackets, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Miohn Allen helped Murphy's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 56 yards.
Swain County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Maroon Devils feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Ray Smith has thrown for 1,772 yards and 23 touchdowns this season, while Jordan Cody has 35 catches for 656 yards.
Kenton Braswell of the Murphy is only 54 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 87 carries Braswell has put up 946 yards this year.
Swain County made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,335 from 6,231. The improvement was the result of a 49-14 victory over the Rams last week.
