Basketball Recap: Jefferson Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

Jefferson won the last time they faced Brackenridge and things went their way on Tuesday too. Everything went the Jefferson Mustangs' way against the Brackenridge Eagles as the Jefferson Mustangs made off with a 74-52 victory. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 468th, while the Eagles are ranked 1107th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jefferson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trey Perez, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. What's more, Perez also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Nico Vela was another key player, going 6 for 8 on his way to 15 points.

Jefferson was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brackenridge only racked up five assists.

Brackenridge's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Felton Nance, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 12 points, and Jude Mendez, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Canizales, who posted six points and four steals.

Jefferson has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points per game. As for Brackenridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-21.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jefferson will square off against Sam Houston at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season. As for Brackenridge, they will take on Seguin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Seguin has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
