Basketball Recap: Colony Has No Trouble Against Murrieta Mesa

After losing to Murrieta Mesa the last time they met, Colony decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Colony Titans came out on top against the Murrieta Mesa Rams by a score of 64-57 on Monday. That looming 64-57 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Titans yet this season.

Colony's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Johnson, who went 9 of 15 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. The game was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Desmond Flanagan, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 10 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaden Merritt, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Merritt is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Andrei Aguilera was another key player, as he made all 7 shots he took racking up 16 points.

Colony has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Murrieta Mesa, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Colony will be taking part in a tournament against Pacifica Christian/Orange County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Murrieta Mesa, they will face off against La Serna at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
