Highland Prep had lost 11 games straight , but after bumping their record up to 4-12 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 23-3 margin over the Madison Highland Prep Heat. The Honey Badgers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4th (when they won 25-4).
Sydney Mikkelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Mikkelson was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Alexis Rodda was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aneyka Angulo, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Highland Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison Highland Prep struck out nine times.
As for Madison Highland Prep, their loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15. Those home defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games.
On Madison Highland Prep's side, Abigail Casrrubias made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those runs were Casrrubias' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Burboa, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Looking ahead, Highland Prep will head out on the road to square off against Parker at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Madison Highland Prep, they will welcome Tempe Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 25.09 runs per game on average), something the Heat will no doubt try to take advantage of.
