Covenant Day hasn't had much luck against Charlotte Christian recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. Covenant Day will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Covenant Day came out on top against Charlotte Country Day School on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Lions' pitchers stepped up to hand the Buccaneers a 5-0 shutout.
James Cosper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Grant Gardner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brode Dixon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Zeb Engstrom was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Charlotte Latin by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since March 8, 2024.
Owen Farrell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Derek Vazquez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Charlotte Christian's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 23-5. As for Covenant Day, their record now sits at 18-4.
Covenant Day came up short against Charlotte Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-0. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
