The Covenant Day Lions fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They snuck past High Point Christian Academy with a 20-14 victory on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Covenant Day also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2022.
Covenant Day can attribute much of their success to Jaelan Pile, who gained 203 total yards, and also threw for 18 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Pile was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards.
Although High Point Christian Academy took the loss, they still got scores from David Roberts and Benny Limbacher.
Even if they lost, High Point Christian Academy's defense sure didn't make it easy: Covenant Day's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Josh Smith.
Covenant Day's win bumped their record up to 5-5. As for High Point Christian Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covenant Day will play host again and welcome Hickory Grove Christian, where Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. High Point Christian Academy will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Trinity Christian at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th.
