McCurdy dropped to 5-8 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 27-1 to the Questa Wildcats. The Bobcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 6-2.
Ethan Bolton was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ethan Martinez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Questa, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-5 record. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Questa's side, Noah Rael made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Rael also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Questa is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise. Rael was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and eight RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Remington Smith was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joaquin Martinez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, McCurdy will host Penasco at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.11 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Questa, they will venture away from home to challenge Mora at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rangers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.25 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
