The Geneva Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the West Geauga Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Geneva is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Geneva was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison, sneaking past 3-1.
Annabelle Bragg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Geneva's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Markijohn, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, West Geauga made easy work of Kenston on Wednesday and carried off a 14-5 win. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.
Lely Percassi made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Percassi was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Michaela Platt was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dayana Malone, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
West Geauga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
West Geauga has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Geneva, their record now sits at 9-10.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Geneva hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like West Geauga struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Geneva suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to West Geauga in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
