The Hawthorne Hornets will head out on the road to challenge the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. P.K. Yonge took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Hawthorne, who comes in off a win.
Hawthorne is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Saint Francis Catholic 20-5 on Monday. The Hornets have beaten the Wolves the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wolves has come to flipping the script.
Kiya Lowe made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lowe was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Hawthorne got a massive performance out of Makenzie Swilley, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs Swilley has posted since back in April of 2024. Holly Moore also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Hawthorne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, P.K. Yonge didn't have quite enough to beat Bradford on Wednesday and fell 8-7. The Blue Wave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Emma Mansfield made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Jessica Bain was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base.
P.K. Yonge's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Hawthorne, the win got them back to even at 4-4-1.
P.K. Yonge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hawthorne has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. It's a different story for P.K. Yonge, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Hawthorne's sizable advantage in that area, the Blue Wave will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hawthorne suffered a grim 13-5 defeat to P.K. Yonge when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
