Madison Lada made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Adison Cabe was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Bailey Jo Helton was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Franklinton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Roanoke Rapids took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They skirted past Halifax Academy 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won four in a row.
Madison Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madelyn Bell, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Carroll, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Franklinton's record is now 3-0. As for Roanoke Rapids, their record is now 1-0.
Franklinton might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Roanoke Rapids in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Franklinton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
