The Valley Center Jaguars are taking a road trip to challenge the Westview Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Valley Center has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
San Pasqual hit Valley Center with a seven-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars lost 17-2 to the Golden Eagles. The Jaguars have struggled against the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Su'La Devers made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Westview never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Escondido 17-0. With that win, the Wolverines brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Escondido's batters probably weren't too happy with Kaya Rodriguez, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 12 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Rodriguez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Guzman, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abby Peake, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Westview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Escondido only posted a batting average of .062.
The victory made it two in a row for Westview and bumps their season record up to 9-4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Valley Center, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Valley Center hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Westview struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Valley Center suffered a grim 18-2 defeat to Westview in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
