Softball Game Preview: Loyola Academy Ramblers vs. New Trier Trevians

Loyola Academy is 9-1 against New Trier since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Ramblers will head out to square off against the Trevians at 4:30 p.m. Loyola Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.

Loyola Academy came out on top against Hersey on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Ramblers took their match against the Huskies 7-2.

Hunter Lewis was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emilia Bartholomew, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Loyola Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for New Trier, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Schaumburg 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trevians have posted since April 22nd.

Loyola Academy pushed their record up to 14-15 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for New Trier, their record is now 16-7.

Loyola Academy took their win against New Trier in their previous meeting last Saturday by a conclusive 14-0 score. Will the Ramblers repeat their success, or do the Trevians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
