Luke Stevens made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only one earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Tahanto Regional's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Stevens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, Jack Allen was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Tom Chamberlain also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Maynard challenged West Boylston on Friday. The Tigers fell just short of the Lions by a score of 7-6.
Max Mandler and Max Cedeno did some serious damage despite the final result: Mandler got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Cedeno went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Tahanto Regional now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Maynard, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-3 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tahanto Regional has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Maynard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
