The Yreka Miners were the 67-56 winner over the West Valley Eagles when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. Yreka was the victim of a rough 72-48 defeat at the hands of the Eagles on Wednesday. Yreka was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-23.
When it comes to explaining why Yreka lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayden Dunbar. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Brody Zediker was another key contributor, scoring two points along with ten rebounds.
West Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordan Heacock out in front who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Heacock has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Blaze Collins, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Yreka has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. As for West Valley, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-12.
Yreka will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge the Cubs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
