The Piner Prospectors are taking a road trip to challenge the St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Piner has seven straight victories, St. Vincent de Paul has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Piner's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Elsie Allen. The Prospectors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Cambria Weerts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Piner let Mialynn Membrilla and Nya Parra run wild. Membrilla went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Parra got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave Parra a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camilla Parra, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, while it was St. Vincent de Paul who put the first runs on the board on Tuesday, it was Montgomery who put up more. The Mustangs came up short against the Vikings, falling 19-1.
St. Vincent de Paul saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Bignardi, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Piner's record now sits at 12-6. As for St. Vincent de Paul, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Piner's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Prospectors have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for St. Vincent de Paul, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Piner continue to outrun the ball?
Piner got the 'W' when the teams last played two weeks ago against St. Vincent de Paul by a conclusive 9-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Prospectors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
