The Hedgesville Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 36-23 to Martinsburg. Hedgesville has not had much luck with Martinsburg recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Hedgesville got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Maggie Boyer and
Natalie Yates, who each put up seven points.
Gracie Brown held things down on the boards with 12 rebounds.
Hedgesville bumped their record down to 4-5 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Martinsburg, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hedgesville will stay at home for another game and welcome St. James at 1:30 p.m. on January 16th. St. James will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 245th in Maryland, while Hedgesville is ranked 73rd in West Virginia). Martinsburg won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mountain Mission at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. One thing working in Mountain Mission's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
