Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Slippery Rock

While Slippery Rock's victory against Grove City wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rockets had just enough and edged out the Eagles 10-8. That's more bragging rights for the Rockets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jacob Kunsman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Parker Dalcamo, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Doug Popovec, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

The win (which was Slippery Rock's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.7 runs this season. As for Grove City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Coming up, Slippery Rock will take on Sharon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Grove City, they will challenge Titusville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rockets will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
