On Saturday the senior from
Calabasas (Calif.) made his college selection at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game in San Antonio Texas.
Before a live NBC television audience in the third quarter of the contest, the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder picked UCLA.
Holmes, who also starred as a receiver at Calabasas, recorded the fastest 40-yard time (4.32 seconds) at The Opening, the premier player showcase last July in Oregon.
According to 247Sports, Holmes is the 12th best recruit in the country and No. 2 cornerback. He received 26 offers and made official visits to Ohio State (Nov. 26), USC (Dec. 4) and Arizona (Sept. 24).
Holmes told the NBC crew that it was a family discussion, some, who were encouraging him to go to Ohio State. While making his announcement a young cousin kept pointing to an Ohio State cap and looked disappointed when Holmes announced UCLA.
Holmes was a first-team MaxPreps All-American after recording 30 tackles on offense but no interceptions. Few teams threw in his direction. On offense, he had 69 catches for 1,214 yards and 14 touchdowns for the 14-1 Coyotes.
