Sumner is a perfect 7-0 against Bethel since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bison at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Sumner's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Tuesday. Everything went their way against Spanaway Lake as they made off with a 16-0 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Riley Meyers, who fired off two home runs, nine RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keira Roberts, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Sumner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bethel never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Curtis on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Vikings. The Bison haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Payton Watson was excellent, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Sophia Hutchins was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Sumner's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Bethel, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.
Bethel's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sumner has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Bethel, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Sumner's sizable advantage in that area, the Bison will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sumner got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against Bethel by a conclusive 12-0 score. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bison turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
