Baseball Recap: Broadwater Academy's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Broadwater Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Chincoteague Ponies with a sharp 11-1 win. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly ten runs.

Eli Destro was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Broadwater Academy is 3-1-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Destro was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Seltzer, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Bennit Custis was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3.

Broadwater Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are undefeated (3-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Broadwater Academy pushed their record up to 5-4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chincoteague, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Broadwater Academy will take on Isle of Wight Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Chincoteague, they will face off against Snow Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
