With a big week,
Independence jumped into the top 25 in the state rankings. Independence moved up from No. 31 in the state all the way to No. 21 thanks to a 2-1 record over the past week. Led by manager Joe Goddard, the Patriots are ranked No. 5,507 in the nation with an overall record of 22-14.
Austin Cordell was the best pitcher in Coalfield AA this week, leading
Pikeview. He won one game and struck out nine batters.
The Panthers' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only 14 hits and four walks, both of which led the league.
The highest batting average in the league this week belonged to PikeView's
Hunter Moses, who churned out four hits in six at bats for a .667 average. For the season, he's hitting .336, good for sixth in the league. Moses has accumulated 38 base knocks this year so far.
Kevin Cottle tossed six strikeouts this week while on the hill for the Panthers, adding to his league-best total of 92.
