Raceland dropped their record down to 21-8 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a 16-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Boyd County Lions. Even if the Rams couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Bryna Wellman was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. Baylee Burney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Boyd County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-15 record this season. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.
On Boyd County's side, Brooke Jacobs and Elyn Simpkins were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Jacobs tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Simpkins pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Jacobs got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base, while Simpkins got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. Those five RBI gave Jacobs a new career-high.

Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Myla Hamilton, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Coming up, Raceland will look to defend their home field on Monday against Russell at 7:30 p.m. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. Boyd County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
