The Dr. Maya Angelou Community Phoenix put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by West Adams at home to the tune of 55-0. The result was nothing new for Dr. Maya Angelou Community, who have now won seven games by 24 points or more so far this season.
Branden Morales continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 170 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Mendoza, who threw for 102 yards and three touchdowns on only nine passes.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Oswaldo Jimenez and his two sacks.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community's victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 West Adams and 0-10 Verbum Dei Jesuit (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.6% over those games). As for West Adams, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-9.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community will be playing at home against Sylmar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Adams does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
