The Mt. Pleasant Vikings will challenge the Yough Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Mt. Pleasant came out on top against Burrell on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run third inning. The Vikings never let the Bucs get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Bobby Smithnosky made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ian Shipley and Jordan Grieff did most of the damage at the plate: Shipley went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Grieff went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Shipley has become a key player for Mt. Pleasant: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Unger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Mt. Pleasant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
While Yough didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Frazier by a score of 16-12 on Friday.
Yough let John Steban and Jake Williams run wild. Steban went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Williams went a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Williams also put up a stolen base, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nate Bell, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Mt. Pleasant's record now sits at 7-4. As for Yough, their record is now 6-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mt. Pleasant hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Yough struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mt. Pleasant got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Yough by a conclusive 15-4 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
