Canutillo has gone 7-1 against Clint recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Lions at 12:00 p.m. Canutillo is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
Canutillo proved they can win big last Friday (they won by six) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out AZ Compass Prep 10-8.
Matthew Looney was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Diego Acosta was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Canutillo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Clint beat Pecos 5-1 on Thursday.
Zach Escobar made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Clint is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Escobar was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Clint let Nomar Maldonado and Miguelangel Rivas run wild. Maldonado went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Rivas went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Oscar Maldonado, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Clint now has a winning record of 8-7-1. As for Canutillo, their record now sits at 8-9.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canutillo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Clint struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Canutillo's way against Clint in their previous matchup last Thursday, as Canutillo made off with a 16-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
