On Wednesday, the Roosevelt Roughriders faced the Banneker Bulldogs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Roosevelt managed a 69-65 win over Banneker. Winning may never get old, but Roosevelt sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Leading Roosevelt to victory were Jawuan Carter and Gabriel Hudgens. Carter scored 20 points, while Hudgens scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Antonio Moorer, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Banneker still got an impressive performance from Jeremiah Shelton, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Shelton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games he's played. Even though they lost, Banneker were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roosevelt only racked up ten assists.
Roosevelt has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Banneker, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8.
Roosevelt will be playing at home against School Without Walls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Roosevelt's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five games. As for Banneker, they will be playing at home against Ballou at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Banneker knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Ballou likes a good challenge.
