The El Capitan Gauchos posted their biggest victory since December 2, 2023 on Saturday. They breezed by Coalinga on the road to the tune of 76-49.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead El Capitan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braylen Centeno, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Ultreras, who scored 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Several Horned Toads players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Damyen Tamayo, who scored 20 points along with two steals. Tamayo is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaden Pena, who scored 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
El Capitan is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Coalinga, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Capitan's road trip will continue as they head out to face Atwater at 7:15 p.m. on January 17th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Atwater is ranked 492nd, while El Capitan is ranked 474th). As for Coalinga, they will head out on the road to take on Tranquillity at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tranquillity is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
