The Portal Panthers waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Montgomery County 75-40 at home. Portal has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 24 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portal to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amir Jackson, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Joseph Thomas, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Portal pushed their record up to 18-1 with that victory, which was their 23rd straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.1 points per game. As for Montgomery County, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portal will challenge Emanuel County Institute at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Emanuel County Institute will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 536th, while Portal is ranked 35th). Montgomery County will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Savannah Classical Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th.
