The Alief Hastings Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. They fell 44-36 to Shadow Creek. While losing is never fun, Alief Hastings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Sharks are ranked 121st).
Alief Hastings lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Melinda Winston, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Winston is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Amyah Weathersby was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 13 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Alief Hastings smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shadow Creek only pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shadow Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zoe Senganya, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Young, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Alief Hastings' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-15. As for Shadow Creek, they pushed their record up to 18-12 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Alief Hastings will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. As for Shadow Creek, they will head out on the road to take on the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
