5A District 5 recap October 22, 2013
Atrisco Heritage Academy's Aaron Bean rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A District 5 this season in his game against Rio Grande last week. Bean scampered for 90 yards on the play and finished with 172 on the day as his team topped the Ravens.
Valley took down Albuquerque 56-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
West Mesa's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mike Archuleta threw for 132 and 3 touchdowns and Zachary Schroer had 97 yards receiving. On the ground Jaemin Ramirez chipped in 328 yards. Sean Solis helped West Mesa's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.
The Mustangs' dynamic duo of Archuleta and Schroer proved tough for Highland to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Solis helped West Mesa's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.
Ramirez was a force in the backfield as West Mesa beat the Hornets.
Ramirez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Ron McMath's team topped Highland. Ramirez's key target this week was Schroer, who caught 2 passes for 97 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Bryan Medina of Derek Maestas' team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,126. He has also thrown 10 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Martin Ortiz. The Atrisco Heritage Academy star has 14 catches for 358 yards.
The Vikings are currently in first, while the Mustangs are in third.
