Basketball Game Preview: Somerset Sky Pointe Eagles vs. Sierra Vista Mountain Lions

Two dominant guards in Ja'Cory Gory and EJ Dacuma are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Somerset Sky Pointe Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Somerset Sky Pointe knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Sierra Vista likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Somerset Sky Pointe ended up a good deal behind Somerset Academy Losee and lost 84-65. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (55), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Somerset Sky Pointe's defeat came about despite a quality game from Emmitt Bell, who went 7 for 17 en route to 24 points. With that strong performance, Bell is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mavier Weatherspoon, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Sierra Vista came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest with ease, bagging an 81-36 win over the Archers. The Mountain Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 34 points or more this season.

Sierra Vista's win came from a few key players Somerset Sky Pointe will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dacuma, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 23 points and six steals. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Tristen Porter was another key player, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten boards.

Sierra Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Sierra Vista has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.0 points per game. As for Somerset Sky Pointe, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
