Alta (Sandy, Utah) bested West Jordan (Utah) 42-0 while riding the arm of
Chipper Lucero, who tossed four touchdown passes.
The Hawks were up 26-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Mack Richards in the first quarter.
Alta expanded its lead to 36 points entering the fourth quarter. AHS scored two times in the third, including once on a Lucero touchdown pass to
Harrison Handley.
The Sandy school entered the contest giving up 24.3 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Jaguars well below their season average of 13.4 points scored per game.
Alta also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 62-29.
Alta (7-2) goes up against Cottonwood in a 5A Region 3 game matchup next week, while West Jordan (2-6) locks horns with Jordan also in a 5A Region 3 game.
