Basketball Recap: Columbia Piles Up the Points Against Caldwell

Columbia waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They claimed a resounding 71-43 victory over the Caldwell Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 56-25 back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Blake Hansen, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Hansen has become a key player for Columbia: the team is 7-2 when he posts at least ten boards, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Easton Lott, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 14 points and five rebounds.

Columbia was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Columbia pushed their record up to 12-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points over those games. As for Caldwell, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Columbia does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Caldwell, they will take on Vallivue at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Vallivue's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.
