The Whitwell Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight defeat. The contest between them and Boyd Christian wasn't particularly close, with Whitwell falling 49-34. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Whitwell of the 59-26 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Boyd Christian found their leader in underclassman Brooke Kesey, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Kesey is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Regin Grissom, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Whitwell has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Boyd Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 20-12.
Whitwell will head out on the road to challenge Copper Basin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Copper Basin's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Whitwell has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Boyd Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
