Basketball Recap: Mallard Creek Skates Past Myers Park with Ease

Mallard Creek won the last time they faced Myers Park and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Mallard Creek Mavericks really took it to the Myers Park Mustangs for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-37 win. The Mavericks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 23 points or more this season.

Leading Mallard Creek to victory were Elle Stone and Kiara Anderson. Stone went 10 of 23 on her way to 26 points in addition to seven steals and six boards, while Anderson went 6 for 13 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight steals and five assists. Anderson is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of My?Asia Young, who posted nine points and eight boards.

Mallard Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Myers Park saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amani Barner went 5 of 10 on her way to 12 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brielle Hopkins, who had ten points.

Mallard Creek's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Myers Park, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Mallard Creek wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-24 win against West Charlotte on the 17th. As for Myers Park, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-33 loss against Concord Academy on the 14th.
