Ellsworth is 7-2 against Republic County since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bearcats will look to defend their home field against the Buffaloes at 4:00 p.m. Ellsworth has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ellsworth's last matchup with Southeast of Saline could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Tuesday. The Bearcats came up short against the Trojans, falling 12-2. The Bearcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Republic County can bid farewell to their 17-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Valley Heights by a score of 15-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Buffaloes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Aden Morris made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Republic County: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-17 otherwise.
In other batting news, Adam Krohn was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashton Williams, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
Republic County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive contests.
Ellsworth's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Republic County, their win bumped their record up to 2-18.
Everything went Ellsworth's way against Republic County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Ellsworth made off with a 24-0 victory. Do the Bearcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buffaloes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
