The Syracuse Bulldogs were the 64-40 winner over the Stanton County Trojans when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Syracuse took a 40-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stanton County on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Syracuse came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Stanton County is ranked 80th).
Stanton County found their leader in underclassman David Crane, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Crane is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bryan Callegas, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Syracuse's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Stanton County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Syracuse and Lakin will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lakin is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. Stanton County on the road again on Tuesday and play against Southwestern Heights at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
