Even though the Portsmouth Trojans have not done well against the Ironton Fighting Tigers recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Portsmouth simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ironton 67-37 on the road. That looming 67-37 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Portsmouth yet this season.
Deandre Berry was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Donnovan Breech, who scored 12 points.
Portsmouth's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Ironton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.
Portsmouth will be playing at home against South Point at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Point will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 299th, while Portsmouth is ranked 110th). As for Ironton, they will head out on the road to face off against Gallia Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gallia Academy and Ironton are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
