The Elmira Express pushed their score all the way to 57 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-57 to Johnson City. Elmira lost against Johnson City in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 70-63 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Elmira lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ellie Clearwater. Despite the final result, she scored 23 points along with five steals. The contest was Clearwater's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashaya Wallace, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Elmira's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Johnson City, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Elmira will head out on the road to face off against Maine-Endwell at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Johnson City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Corning-Painted Post at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
