Shelby is 8-2 against Galion since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Whippets will square off against the Tigers at 5:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shelby has four straight wins, Galion has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Shelby beats Galion with 22 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Whippets beat Marion Harding on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 22-2. The Whippets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 11 runs or more this season.

Alyssa Booker was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Booker was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Natalie Kennard was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Braylee Sturts was another key player, scoring four runs while going 2-for-5.
Shelby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Galion lost 13-7 to Clear Fork on Wednesday.
Madelyn Schieber made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Kortnie Ganshorn also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Shelby pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Galion, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Shelby's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Whippets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Galion, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Shelby continue to outrun the ball?
Shelby was able to grind out a solid victory over Galion when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 13-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Whippets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
