Northmont hasn't had much luck against Springboro recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Thunderbolts will challenge the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. The last three games Northmont has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Northmont and Springfield, and Springfield kept the tradition alive. The Thunderbolts might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-5 to the Wildcats, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Drake Sauber put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Austin Welch was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Aidan Pendleton was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Springboro ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Miamisburg. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since May 11, 2024.
Ben Veletean was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Jacob Cane also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Springboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Springboro pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Northmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8-1.
Northmont couldn't quite get it done against Springboro in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 13-9. Can the Thunderbolts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
