The Magee Trojans's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Hazlehurst Indians at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Magee focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Magee came up short against Gulfport and fell 53-42.
Nicole Sandifer put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 45.2% of Magee's points, marking the 23rd time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamyra Hayes, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Hazlehurst beat Seminary 42-33 on Thursday. Given Hazlehurst's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Seminary is ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Magee has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for Hazlehurst, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4.
Magee didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Hazlehurst in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 45-40 victory. Does Magee have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hazlehurst turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
