The Eaton Reds pushed their score all the way to 65 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 79-65 bruising from Valley. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (63), Eaton still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Eaton still got an impressive performance from Mitch Haythorn, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Haythorn has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ely Madaleno, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Eaton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Leading Valley to victory were Owen Peterson and Aidan Brownell. Peterson scored 21 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Brownell dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten steals. Brownell also posted eight assists for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Dudley, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Eaton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. As for Valley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-14.
Eaton will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Weld Central at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Eaton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. As for Valley, they will be playing at home against University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. University is coming into the contest with four straight defeats on the road, meaning Valley will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
