Two dominant signal callers in Braxton Roberts and Ziondre Williams are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Panther Creek Panthers will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Anna Coyotes at 7:30 p.m. on November 24th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Panther Creek rose to the challenge on Friday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 49-21 win over the Pirates. Given Panther Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 58th, while La Vega is ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Panther Creek relied on the efforts of Sentel Simpson, who rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns, and Roberts, who rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Ace Traylor, who picked up 106 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Anna waltzed into Friday's matchup with eight straight wins but they left with nine. Everything went their way against China Spring as Anna made off with a 45-21 win. With Anna ahead 28-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Anna found their leader in underclassman Williams, who rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, and also threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Williams was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards. Another player making a difference was Edward Chumley, who rushed for 40 yards and three touchdowns.
Panther Creek's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Anna, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Panther Creek has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 415.5 total yards per game. However, it's not like Anna struggles in that department as they've been averaging 358.5 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Panther Creek was taken down by Anna 62-24 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Panther Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
