Baseball Game Preview: Union City Tigers vs. Hydro-Eakly Bobcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Union City Tigers face off against Hydro-Eakly Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union City's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Hydro-Eakly's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Hydro-Eakly will be up against a hot Union City team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Union City walked away with a 7-4 victory over Varnum on Friday.

Aiden Williams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake Faerber, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Brycen Bilyeu also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Hydro-Eakly made sure to put some runs up on the board against Fairview on Monday. Hydro-Eakly was the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over Fairview. Considering the Bobcats have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Union City pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Hydro-Eakly, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.

Union City couldn't quite finish off Hydro-Eakly when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Union City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
