Pinconning had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 8-13 to make it four. They lost 18-9 to the Garber Dukes. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Dukes this season, with their most recent defeat being a 11-7 loss on Monday.
Emma McQuarter was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Layla Foco was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season. Elley Shoultes was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
As for Garber, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-12 record this season. Considering they have won 11 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Pinconning, Garber also got a great game from a two-way player: Kara Kotenko. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Kotenko has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Garber got a massive performance out of Ava Wagner, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Wagner has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Kokaly, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinconning will head out to face off against Meridian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Garber, they will venture away from home to challenge Bridgeport at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
