York and Downers Grove North are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Dukes will venture away from home to take on the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. York is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
York is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Barrington just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 9-0 to the Fillies/Broncos. The shutout was out of character for the Dukes seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Downers Grove North ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Glenbard West. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since May 13, 2024.
Sophia Lawson spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Downers Grove North let Samantha Lehnherr and Sophia Barofsky run wild. Lehnherr went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run, while Barofsky went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Lehnherr has posted since back in March of 2024.
Downers Grove North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Downers Grove North is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for York, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
York's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Dukes have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Downers Grove North, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will York continue to outrun the ball?
York couldn't quite get it done against Downers Grove North in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Dukes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
