The Springfield Spartans were the 68-65 winner over the Northwest Indians when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Springfield was the victim of a tough 72-50 loss at the hands of Northwest on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Springfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 559th, while Northwest is ranked 189th).
Springfield lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Braden Farmer, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Farmer has scored all season. Anthony Ahern was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Northwest, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Springfield will be playing at home against Streetsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Streetsboro is coming into the match with three straight victories on the road, meaning Springfield will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Northwest, they will face off against Canton South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Canton South likes a good challenge.
