Cumberland is 7-1 against Woonsocket since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Cumberland Clippers will be playing at home against the Woonsocket Villa Novans at 10:00 a.m. The timing is sure in Cumberland's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Woonsocket has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for Cumberland, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 28-21 to the Eagles on Saturday. The loss put an end to Cumberland's undefeated start to the season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Evan Spencer, who rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 125 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Ray, who rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Woonsocket faced Cranston West in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Woonsocket took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cranston West two weeks ago. Woonsocket has not had much luck with Cranston West recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Their wins bumped Cumberland to 10-1 and Barrington to 10-1.
Cumberland strolled past Woonsocket in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a score of 35-20. Does Cumberland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Woonsocket turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
